Skiing in India – that sounds unimaginable, incredible. In reality it is a journey to one of the best and most beautiful powder destinations in the world: GULMARG in KASHMIR.
Gulmarg is situated in the Pir Panjal Mountain Ranges in the far west of the Himalayas.
From early January until the mid of march you will get the amazing dry powder snow. During that time weather conditions offer us very cold nights and intense snowfalls. The excellent snow conditions and splendid scenic views makes it a paradise for skiers and boarders.
Gulmarg is, together with Niseko (Japam) and Mt. Baker (Washington, USA) one of the 3 regions which worldwide have the most snowfall. Exept of the ski runs of Jade Dragon in China, there is no ski area at any higher altitude.
For getting used to the altitude, that could cause mountain sickness to some people, it is good to spend a few days in the village. You can enjoy walks and beeing drawn on sleds.
Near Gulmarg there are more areas, mostly unknown, far from tourism which are particularly suitable for ski touring and snowtrekking. In fact this area boasts many hidden gems that are brimming with immense potential for skiing.
